Why The Mobilisation Fee Was Left Empty On Your Sample Quote

If you went through the sample quote I shared last time, you noticed the mobilization fee section was blank. I left it empty for a reason.

Unlike drilling or steel casings, mobilization costs aren't fixed. The price varies depending on where your land is located.

Before talking about numbers, what is a mobilization fee?

This fee covers moving heavy machinery to your site: the drilling rig, support trucks, casing pipes, and the drilling crew.

Distance impacts fuel and transport. If your project is in Nairobi or surrounding areas, mobilization costs between Ksh 20,000 and Ksh 50,000. In Ukambani, expect around Ksh 50,000. In the Western region, it sits around Ksh 100,000, while projects at the Coast or North Eastern region run up to Ksh 200,000.

If you hire a local driller whose rig is stationed inside your county, you might pay Ksh 10,000. The estimates above apply when mobilizing rigs out of Nairobi.

Here is the key rule: mobilization fees must be fixed in your agreement before anything moves. A driller sets this price after assessing site accessibility. No driller should demand extra mobilization money once the rig is on the road or after drilling starts. If they do, stand your ground and don't pay.
